When is Black Friday 2025 in Australia?
In Australia, Black Friday 2025 is on Friday 28 November. Each year, the date varies slightly, but it is always in November, on the last Friday. It falls on the day after Thanksgiving in the US, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Black Friday 2024 was on 29 November and Black Friday 2026 will be on 27 November.

Why is it called Black Friday?
The name ‘Black Friday’ originated in the US and was initially used to describe the problems caused by heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the day after Thanksgiving. It marked the beginning of the holiday shopping season.
Over the years, the term took on a secondary meaning as retailers began using it to refer to the day when their accounting books tipped over from being ‘in the red’ (representing losses) to being ‘in the black’ (representing profits), thanks to the increased sales during this time.
