If you’re buying a new washing machine, fridge, freezer or other large appliance, chances are you’ll need to get rid of your old one. This can be an annoying (and costly) exercise - unless you’ve chosen to shop with Appliances Online.
As well as going above and beyond with their delivery, our award winning team will take your old appliance away for safe recycling when they deliver your new one - at no extra charge. Less hassle, less cost, less landfill, and more reasons to choose our Legendary Service.
When you order your new appliance at Appliances Online, just tick the 'Removal of old disconnected appliances' box at checkout.
Then, on delivery day (which is often the very next day), we’ll carefully carry or wheel your new appliance to wherever you want it positioned. There, we’ll unbox it and, provided you have the necessary electricity connection and plumbing in place, connect washers, dryers, fridges and microwaves at no extra cost.
If you’d bought your new appliance from somewhere else, you’d probably not only have had to pay for delivery, but would now also be faced with the problem of how to dispose of a fridge that has lost its cool or a washer that’s spun its last cycle.
With Appliances Online, there’s no such problem, because we’ll swap your new one for your old one, as long as the old appliance has been disconnected from electricity, water and gas. Gas disconnections must be performed by a licensed plumber, and electric ovens that are hardwired to the mains also need to be professionally disconnected.
If you’re disposing of an old wall mounted clothes dryer, you will need to have taken this down from the wall brackets before we can remove it. Fortunately, wall mounted dryers are always vented dryers, because they are the only type that’s light enough to be fixed to your laundry wall. This lighter weight makes them relatively simple for a couple of adults to take down.
If you have booked to have a more complex installation done by one of our qualified technicians, they can also disconnect your old appliance for you. Complex installations are often those that require plumbing or electrical hardwiring, like dishwashers, ovens and cooktops.
What if you’ve seen some fantastic prices on new household appliances and ordered them for an upcoming kitchen or laundry renovation before you’re quite ready for the old ones to be removed? Not a problem: we can deliver your new refrigerator, stove or air conditioner and then come back to pick up your old one at a later date when it’s been disconnected.
Appliances Online works with our recycling partners to ensure old appliances, mattresses and product packaging are recycled responsibly where possible.
Approximately 54% of all e-waste is currently estimated to be collected in Australia, with 80% of what is being collected going to recycling. That means less than half of all e-waste is currently recycled because large amounts aren’t being collected in the first place. The more we can do to increase the amount of e-waste being collected, therefore, the better.
An estimated 2.5 million home appliances are discarded every year. You’ve probably seen a lot of them sitting forlornly on nature strips and poking out of skip bins. It’s a sad picture and one we’re doing our bit to change. Appliances Online helps to recycle more old appliances than any other retailer in Australia.
When you order a new appliance from us, we see it as our responsibility to collect and safely recycle your old unwanted white goods and small appliances, from washing machines to toasters. By diverting metals and other precious resources from landfill, manufacturers can reuse them in the production of new goods.
By partnering with mattress recyclers like Soft Landing and Bounce Back, we can collect your old mattress for recycling when you buy a new one. Up to 75% of each old mattress can be recycled and turned into new products, from roof sheeting and carpet underlay to animal bedding and even acoustic panelling.
We are proud members of the Australian Bedding Stewardship Council and have collected and funded the recycling of thousands of mattresses while creating jobs for people experiencing challenges to employment.
Everyone loves getting a new appliance, but unless you’ve got kids who also love building cubby houses, you’ll be happy to let our delivery drivers take the packaging away with them. They’ll happily take not only the boxes, but also the strapping and expanded polystyrene (that can’t be kerbside recycled), away for recycling. We are proud to have achieved an annual average of 70% landfill diversion for packaging waste.
There are a handful of benefits to having us pick up your old appliance when we deliver your new one.
Local council cleanups can be an unpaid option for getting rid of some ‘hard rubbish’, but may have restrictions on item sizes and white goods disposal. You can also get fined for leaving old appliances out on council land if a collection hasn’t been scheduled - and that’s pretty much the opposite of free appliance removal!
It’s also possible for children to get trapped inside abandoned fridges or freezers if they crawl inside them, and this could be potentially fatal. If you leave old appliances on the street, it’s crucial therefore to remove or safely secure the doors.
If you’ve got an FAQ about getting your old appliance collected, a query about ordering or payment, or need some guidance choosing the best appliance for your needs, you can call our friendly Sydney-based team 24/7 on 1300 000 500, or message us via the chat icon at the bottom right of your screen.
