Routers and Modems
A cornerstone of a home office, high-performance smart home, or high-speed gaming setups, your Wi-Fi system can drive a lot of your daily activities. When looking for the right WiFi router, it's important to consider how many bands you need.
A single-band modem router is only able to transmit data with a 2.4GHz band while a dual-band wireless router makes use of both a 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. This second band can help a dual-band router with faster Wi-Fi speeds, depending on your internet plan, due to fewer devices utilising this frequency. For additional connectivity, you may even wish to consider a tri-band router which adds an extra 5GHz band to your LAN (local area network).
If many people tend to access the internet at any one time it may be ideal to consider a router with MU-MIMO, streamlines the connection of multiple devices to increase speed and efficiency. Or you could opt for a Gigabit router with access to a Gigabit Ethernet port for rapid wired performance.
For larger homes, you may want to create a mesh WiFi system which uses multiple access points or nodes to boost the range of the signal. Mesh routers are ideal for sizeable homes or businesses where connections may be a little unstable in certain areas or you need wide coverage. In a similar fashion, a range extender, such as the D-Link AC1200, will boost the range of a Wi-Fi signal to those harder-to-reach areas of your home.
Many routers even include built-in modem capabilities, featuring VDSL/ADSL2+ for connection to all DSL services.
