Sunbeam is taking the cooking show’s success with more than a pinch of salt as millions of Australians devour the drama.

My Kitchen Rules is in it’s third season and instead of getting bored Australians are hungry for more. A tempting mix of personality, food and fierce competition is drawing weekly audiences of up to 1.79 million viewers.

Yesterday, over 8,000 Aussies ‘Liked’ the prior night’s ‘sudden death cook off‘. “Au revoir Thomas and Carla!” said the show’s 170,286-strong Facebook page.

As the exclusive small appliance sponsor Sunbeam is well placed alongside Channel 7 as it laps up the ratings.

Love the drama

The partnership, in it’s second year now, ensures Sunbeam appliances are used in every cooking segment. The exposure is significant.

Sunbeam’s marketing manager Nicole Crowley said the show has been a huge success for Sunbeam.

“Sunbeam’s diverse range of appliances lends itself so well to Australia’s highly successful reality cooking shows,” Crowley said.

“Our products are designed with passionate home cooks in mind and shows such as My Kitchen Rules showcase them in the perfect setting.

“We are really pleased with the continued success of the series and our ongoing partnership with Channel 7, which is working extremely well for Sunbeam.”

The variety of recipes allows the appliance maker to showcase different appliances. A Sunbeam Cafe Series Blender has been used to prepare cauliflower soup, a Mixmaster Hand Mixer has been used to prepare buttercream for “delicious dark chocolate cupcakes and cookies”, and a Cafe Series Food Processor has been used to prepare a parsnip puree.

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
