A glance at the latest Neato Robotics vacuum might leave one wondering if it’s retro or futuristic.

But improved suction and the addition of special filters means that at least inside, things are looking better.

A new filter on the XV-21 is said to draw in three times as much dirt and allergens, while a newly developed bristled brush snatches pet hair.

In fact it’s so much more superior than it’s predecessor that the Silicon Valley company has ensured the improved bits can be updated to prior versions.

A pet and allergy kit with the new filter and brush can be bought separately and sprucing up the robot’s intelligence can be done via a USB firmware upgrade.

It’s not yet available on Australian shores, but when it does it will go against the market leader for robot vacuums in Australia, the Samsung Navibot.

The Navibot features an onboard camera to documents your home’s layout and learn the best possible cleaning path.It also keeps noise levels down to a minimu level (70dB), features automatic charging, spot cleaning, barrior and cliff sensors, a side brush and remote control. It’s also currently available in Australia.
